PGM Volunteers

Find out how a group of volunteers is working to save Plas Gunter Mansion.
The Volunteers of Plas Gunter Mansion are a dedicated group who are determined to save this fascinating building and are excited about its place in the past, present and future of Abergavenny.

The group aims to:
  • Develop widespread support for the project
  • Conduct historical research
  • Assist with funding applications
  • Help with fundraising
  • Raise the project’s profile
  • Facilitate the public opening and manage key roles for Plas Gunter Mansion when the building has been restored.

From 2017 to 2020, the Volunteers were part of a group known as the Friends of Plas Gunter Mansion. The group was separately constituted from Plas Gunter Mansion Trust which owns the building. In February 2020, the Friends became known as Volunteers.

The Volunteers are divided into several groups, all of which are vital components of the restoration project – exhibition space group, history group, marketing group and development application group.

Several expert advisors who have knowledge and expertise in heritage, conservation and large funding applications regularly give their time to the project.

We also work with representatives from community organisations, such as Abergavenny Museum, Our Lady and St Michael's Roman Catholic church, Local History Society and Civic Society.

We have been extremely lucky in attracting skilled and able people as Volunteers, and are delighted that so many are interested in helping bring the building back to life.
